Great article!

One thing that wasn't contained in the article, but which Hoyt & Pam did for me in my recent purchase of Pete, is to coordinate with the seller for a "trial period." The seller, Walt Robilliard, actually brought the horse over to P&H, no obligations, for a week. Hoyt & Pam rode him, I rode him, etc., & we had the vet check done before I was asked to make the purchase decision. Ideal, especially for a prospect that has not had a lot of life experience outside his home barn.

Hey Sara -- Super point and one that works great when you have trainers working together like in your case! Thanks for adding to the conversation and sharing what you know! Not to be all "that's what makes the site great", but that is the idea.... people sharing what they know with others so everybody benefits! See It - Do It!

Always great to get that Vet in there first thing you start deciding. In the world of horses, Looks can bedeceiving.

My sis and I got snookered on a purchase she made about 8 years ago. Still have the horse, Quarter/Arab... but he had apparently foundered a year before we saw him. Something the ownere neglected to tell us when pointedly asked about health problems. Fortunately, we keep on top of Shadow like a hawk watching the chicken coup and he's doing really well on the trail and in the ring as you can see by this photo from last spring. Shadow is now 23years old and still a gentle sweetheart that even my 4 year old grandson can leadline.

With that experience behind us, we'll never get blind sided like that again.
