Great article, Christi - keep 'em coming! I'll have to share the story about the great wipe-out Pup and I had in Rice Lake a few years ago!!

Well, this weekend was a first for me, I was finally bucked off a horse, or should I say quarter pony. My aunts pony decided shed go on a bronco run with me on her again. Usually I stay on no problem, but this time, I couldnt get her to spin in time, so she managed to brush me up against a light pole, kncoked my foot out of the stirrup, I managed to get her stopped for a moment, but that moment was enough for me to get off balance enough for her to throw me.

gage52, I assume you didn't get seriously hurt, or you'd have mentioned it in your post. It's always good to get the first fall out of the way. You know what they say: there are only two kinds of riders ... those who have fallen off, and those who will fall off!

Congratulations Gage, you are now well on your way to becoming a true horseman. Now all you need to qualify is to be stomped/stepped on, and kicked.
Seems Fall is the time of year that horses buck more than usual. Tango always tried it before, only last week he was successful, making that the last quest in horsemanship for me. One second I'm sitting nice and comfy and the next I'm looking up at all those pretty clouds lazily drifting by. |

Oh, the stomped is all thats left. I got kicked last year by an appy, she launched me halfway across the pasture. Gave my left side a big ole welt, and made my arm numb for about an hour, and then it tingled for four hours. It was nothin fallin off a horse as compared to fallin off a motorcycle, for one, the horse is on grass, and for two, its a lot slower.

So far, I've been lucky enough to have never fallen off a horse or been kicked by one. After reading your description of being kicked, Gage, I think I'm honestly afraid to go out in the pasture. I spent a whole evening once googling videos of people getting kicked by horses, since my biggest fear is that of the unknown, but your description proved more potent than any of the videos I watched. Yikes!!!
