R.I.P. Serenity
U Rock 'n Ride has some great members - catch up on their updates.
Hey everyone,
How are you? Hope doing well!
So, I have some bad news. Do you remember the 4 year old (Now would be 6) Quarter Horse mare I owned named Serenity? Well, I sold her about 3 months ago. All of a sudden she and I started hating each other. I didn't want to ride her, groom her or even look at her. She would see me coming and pin her ears and go to the corner of her stall. Every ride was bad. She would wind up rearing, tossing her head violently and just totally ignore me. I had my old trainer come out and watch me ride her and she said I wasn't doing anything different than what she was doing when she rode her. We came to the conclusion that she and I just didn't get along. So, I gave her to a friend about a mile up the road. Randy gets horses from auction, trains them in a good discipline and then sells him. I love all the horses he trains so I knew he would be good for Serenity even though she isn't too fond of men.
Apparently, Randy really liked her! Also, his daughter did too! She was starting to cut cattle and rope on her and they were doing great! I was so glad to hear it! Unfortunately, on Wednesday June 1, I heard something that immediately broke my heart. We had a bad wind storm, like 75 mph winds, on May 19 and we believe Serenity was killed in the storm. We went by the house as we usually do on my way to school and noticed that the shelter was knocked down (I noticed this the day after the storm). I also noticed, that there is a horse sized hole in the side of it. It was the stall Serenity was in. Neither her or the horse beside her were found as we looked over the property. My heart immediately sank as I thought the worst. We gave the benefit of the doubt and assumed she was moved into the barn with his wife's Fjord horses. Then on June 1 we tried finding out the details from his son, Randy Jr. (Who shoes a friends horses) and when we brought it up, he looked down and immediately changed the subject but gave me this look that told me that she was dead.
It's been tearing me up really bad these past few days and it's been hard. I know she and I didn't get along, but I never wished for her to be killed. It's devastating to me as she was only 6 and she was doing so well with them. So, there's the bad news. My mare (Yes I still call hrer my mare) was killed.
