It’s tempting to want to pick off the occasional scab we find on our horses, but don’t do it. That scab is serving as a barrier to elements that can contaminate it. Our rule of thumb is to leave scabs alone if the wound looks healthy and is healing at a normal rate. If the wound is oozing, red, growing and not healing, then it’s time to call the vet.
