Name: Daniel Glynn

Location: North Central Kansas

What’s your typical day like?
During the school year I help get the kids ready to go to daycare then I have to be at the school by 7:50. I’m a wood shop teacher at Thunder Ridge High School. It is small rural community of 300 to 400 people. I see 30 to 40 students per day, I have one class that meets every other day. I have been a school teacher for 3 years now. I originally had a degree in Manufacturing and worked in a welding company were I was Quality Control. My wife was not happy teaching in a big city, so I told her to make a decision and pick a place so we could make one last move (considering we moved four times in one year). We moved back to her hometown and have been here four years now.

dfglynn and LincolnBack to my day. After school I come home and do chores usually with my two little helpers, Lincoln and Harley. We feed our two horses, Lakota and Holy, one dog, Bandit, and one rabbit, Snowflake. When we get done with that we do whatever the day brings until dark. During the winter, we don’t have much time to do much outside which is where I usually like to be. During the spring and fall, I’m usually outside till dark or after. I coach football and up until this year I coached basketball. This year we consolidated and decided to let someone else coach (politics played a big part). I really miss coaching basketball, but I like being able to feed the horses during the daylight. That pretty much sums up my typical school year day. My summer day I work for a local farmer and spray a lot of musk thistles, fix fences, check cattle, and drive a truck during the wheat harvest.

How did you first find horses … or did they find you?
I grew up living about two miles away from my cousins who had about five horses at the time. I had a cousin that was a year older and a cousin that was a year younger so I spent a lot of time out there. I rode every chance I got. I also helped every year with putting up hay for a couple of different uncles. When I was in grade school my parents bought a Shetland pony named Ginger. We called her little Ginger because my cousins had another horse named Ginger, so we called her Big Ginger. Ever since I can remember I wanted to be a cowboy. I’m getting closer and maybe when I retire I will have accomplished it.

dfglynn - 4th of JulyFavorite horse story?
I have so many I don’t know which one to tell. I guess the most memorable one happened when I got my first horse Joker. That is the one in my profile pic. I was working the night shift, I just got home from work and my wife was dead asleep because it was about 3:30 or 4:00 in the morning. I lean over her and whisper into her ear that I just traded my old Chevy for a horse. She sprung out of bed saying “WHAT” so I told her again. I thought she was going to kill me, but it would have been worth it. I love horses.

If you could change one thing within the horse industry, what would that be?
I just wish that the horse market was better. You could argue many reasons why it went down. I’m not going to open that can of worms.

Other than horses, what else do you enjoy doing for fun?
I play any sports I can. I golf quite a bit to spend time with my dad. He is a retired teacher and plays a lot. I play summer league softball. Old man or fat man basketball – which ever you call it. I also hunt, trap, and fish when I have time. I love anything to do with the outdoors. More in the summer but I can stand the winter if it’s consistent. I also like to have a good time and spend it with friends and family when I can.

dfglynn - BuckIs there a special significance to your avatar?
Not really I just like that pic. It was from the 4th of July parade. Right after the parade I loaded up Joker and moved to our new house in North Central Kansas. I only had him for one more year after that then traded him for Lakota. One of these days if I get a good pic with me on him I will probably change it to that.

Anything else we should know about you?
As you can probably tell from the website I’m very outgoing. Not much really scares me except maybe roller coasters or jumping out of a perfectly good airplane. I played college football at a division two school in Kansas (Fort Hays State University). I was the punter. I still have a few records there, but the guy before me still has most of them. I bought a little farm with a couple acres and I’m trying to expand. I still want to build a big metal build that can be a garage and a horse barn. I’m still young and I will always be young at heart. I’m also trying to get my kids interested in horses and so far I think I’m doing a good job. I don’t want to force it on them; I want them to want to do it. My wife is allergic to horses so she rides very far and few between.

No not to many dull moments here. I don't like just sitting around the house if I can help it. Sometimes it is ok but normaly I'm a go getter and it drives my wife nuts she likes to stay home alot.
