Name: Randi (Randi)
Location: Turtle Lake, Wisconsin
Horse Life:
I got my first horse when I was a stall cleaner. I stuck with that for a couple years and then started riding more of the horses and showing.
What was your first experience with a horse?
My first horse experience that I remember was when I got Lacy. I was 9 and she was my first horse. That as a horse you could just jump on and do anything with and not have a problem. A bomb could go off under her and she wouldn't care.
You do quite a bit of work on your own training your horses. That has to be rewarding. What's that like and where do you go to get additional advice or information?
Yes, it's very rewarding knowing that my hard work pays off. A lot of my information comes from Carrie Zarga where my horses are stalled. I also ask advice from trainers I meet and ask questions. I get a ton of information going to clinics and watching other things and then just trying it. You don't know if it will work until you do it. See it - Do it!
You're riding, showing, have horses at home and are planning to attend school in the fall in equine management. What would be your ideal work life after graduation?
Well I've been riding for nine years now and have 4 horses. I'm going to attend Black Hawk College in Illinois as part of their equine program. My ideal work life would be to work under someone so I can learn more and work with them first. After that, I plan on starting and running my own place.
What's one of your most memorable experiences with horses?
My most memorable experience with horses would have to be when I went to my first Arabian show last year. I qualified for Regionals and Nationals at that show on Marissa, my nine year old mare that I trained on my own.
If you could change one thing within the horse industry, what would that be?
I would like to see more people just have fun.
Is there a special horse or horses in your life, past or present, that stand out? Tell us why.
Marissa. I've had her for 5 years now and trained her myself. She has taught me a lot as well. Marissa doesn't care what's going on as long as she can sleep. She is one of those horses I could never sell.
Other than horses, what else do you enjoy doing for fun?
I enjoy going for walks, hanging out with friends, being online at all hours of the night, and watching movies.
Anything else we should know about you?
I'm a fun and outgoing person who likes meeting new people. I like stuff to be short and sweet.
